Five years ago, the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Since the first such pandemic was recorded in history - the Plague of Justinian (541-542 AD) - only ten more have been widely recognized and accepted as such. From the speed of the contagions and the first data about their high mortality in the initial months of the year 2020, it was clear that we were living in exceptional times and that, as such, they would have to be confronted.
