Some Reflections on Human Flourishing in The Workplace

Abstract

This work shares personal experiences as a business executive in different situations of his professional career. The objective is not to theorize about the role of people who work in formal or informal employment relationships in different types of organizations, but rather to reflect on human flourishing in the workplace. The concept of flourishing describes an optimal state of mood, engagement, and well-being at work, in which employees feel a sense of purpose, achievement, and personal growth. The author highlights the importance of aligning the organization goals with the individual objectives of each member of the company's community to achieve this state. He also discusses key characteristics of the process of flourishing at work, including commitment, positive relationships, autonomy, craft, and purpose. The author argues that organizations that prioritize employee development, positive relationships, and purpose can promote an environment in which employees can flourish, leading to benefits for both employees and the organization as a whole. Finally there are some considerations of how the principles of Catholic social teaching, such as respect for human dignity, solidarity, subsidiarity, and good administration, can be applied in the workplace to foster human flourishing.
