Abstract

My article aims to illustrate the problem of the relationship between political realism, conservatism and democracy in the thought of Samuel P. Huntington. This thinker is known for his analysis of contemporary political regimes, according to which democracy is likely to be dysfunctional if it cannot accommodate all instances from below. This possibility is particularly concrete in mass democracies, where excessive political participation has the effect of overloading requests that the political class cannot fully accept. We will see how this theory has a conservative vision.
